Abstract
Various surgical methods have been described for correction of abnormal maxillary anterior labial frena. The term abnormal has been reserved for a wide variety of clinical conditions with which the frena has been associated. the terms "normal" and "abnormal" have no histologic meaning at present. This perhaps, in part, stems from the fact that there is major disagreement regarding the predominant connective tissue component of the frena.
