Abstract
Nanocomposites of polystyrene with both organically-modified clays and with graphite have been prepared. For both of these materials, which will impart nanometer dimension to the polymer, the thermal stability of the polymer, as measured by thermogravimetric analysis and Cone calorimetry, is enhanced. A synergistic combination of a clay nanocomposite with resorcinol diphosphate has also been studied.
