Lesbian self development in context: Cohort analysis at two points in history
Abstract
This research combines essentialist and social constructionist perspectives on lesbian self development, integrating them through the use of the life course developmental model. Two participant samples, one collected in 1979 and one in 2003-2004, are combined in order to ascertain history, age, and cohort effects for ten developmental milestones and four additional elapsed time variables that capture differences in developmental timing. The results support a model of lesbian self development that is based on person/environment interaction.
