Abstract
This article reports on the results of one attempt to predict the future business environment and strategic action. The methodology used was based on the authority technique which relied on the gathering of expert opinion. The findings reported are based on responses from executives of ‘Business Review Weekly: Australia's Top 1000’ corporations. Their perceptions of environmental changes to 1996 are shown in six sections: technology, political, social, ecology and competition. Also presented are the expected strategic directions of their corporations in the same period. The results presented in this article are not intended to be definitive, but rather to serve as a point of departure for an informed evaluation of the specific environmental circumstances facing a particular corporation. The findings might serve as a stimulus for further research and the development of an international data base to help corporations in their long-range planning.
