Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to rediscover the historical and theological foundations for the rite of confirmation. Informed by history, theology and educational practice, sound educational goals can be articulated. With these goals as a guide, programs of confirmation education can be designed which help the church do what it intends to do in confirmation, share its faith with the next generation.
