Abstract

This thesis represents an effort to point out rather more specifically than has hitherto been done the influence of Melin de Sainct-Gelais and Clement Marot on the poetry Sir Thomas Wyatt. The General student of literature is very apt to think of the Renaissance impact on English literature of the sixteenth century as a thing of entirely Italian origin. Only the student whose particular interest is the Renaissance will in all likelihood, go beyond the generalization that France too was a literary tutor of Renaissance England. An attempt has here been made to give point to that generalization.
