Abstract
The present general state of critical opinion in regard to Evelyn Waugh as a satirist is marked by disagreements and misunderstandings. The purpose of this thesis is to arrive at a sounder critical judgement by investigation his achievements in the light of his actual literary aims, as well as his personal philosophical and religious standards.
