Abstract
The purpose of this thesis is not to study the work but to trace critical estimates of the work of Aubrey Thomas de Vere from the first available estimate in 1843 to the last one in 1940. In this study, no effort will be made to evaluate these estimates or to establish a judgment for or against de Vere as a writer. There is an effort, however, to guide any reader interested in determining de Vere's place among literary men to significant critical material.
