Abstract

The title compounds react with malonate anions by attack at both the substituted and unsubstituted terminii [sic], to afford the trans-cis substituted diene products.

The reaction of 1-substituted pentadienyl iron cations (R = Me, Et, n-Pro, Ph, methoxycarbonyl) with dimethylmalonate affords the products from attack at the pentadienyl terminii [sic].
