Abstract
In much the same way Dickens considered the past similar to the present "in the superlative degree of comparison only", so is the history of nursing education similar to that of the present. Likewise, only by comparing nursing education in the highest degree of complex social, economic and technical change can knowledge be gained for future nursing education.
