Abstract

Roy Fuller is a living poet who has been writing poetry since 1936. Even now in 1977 he is still at it. Without intending any fatuity, forty years is a long time to be "at it." Yet, while Fuller has produced a very considerable body of work, it largely has not been "met for the first time" (to twist Eliot's phrase) either by critics who by now should have "met it," or by the reading public who won't meet it unless the critics do. The problem this study seek to resolve, therefore, is the remedying of an unaccountable and unforgivable oversight: Roy Fuller's poetry has not been given its due...
