Abstract
The objective of this paper is to present a summary of several techniques used in selecting a sample of a population. Analysis of each technique will not be discussed in detail because to do so would result in a book. In most cases, however, it should be noted that the sample mean is an unbiased estimate of the population mean and while the sample variance is not unbiased, it can be multiplied by a constant to create an unbiased estimate of the population variance. In cases where the sample mean is biased, it will be stated as such.
