Abstract

Modern day teachers in both large and small schools are on the alert to find better ways for children to learn more effectively. With the expansion of instructional resources in the schools in recent years, there has been widespread recognition of the fact that learning experiences other than those in the classroom have educative value for children. A dull drab environment devoid of adequate materials offers very limited experiences as compared with one in which a variety of carefully selected instructional resources are used. Instructional resources are means of communication whereby learners come in contact with concepts, ideals, and values that have been expressed and experienced by others; in this sense they become tools of learning and are important assets for the enrichment of the teaching-learning process. In view of today's criticism of the schools and the recurrent demands for better teaching and better learning, one is inclined to believe that the potential value of such resources is not being exploited as effectively as it might be.
