Abstract
The Catholic Citizen was a weekly newspaper that was published in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, from 1878 until 1935. The paper was the successor of two earlier Wisconsin Catholic newspapers, The Catholic Vindicator and The Star of Bethlehem, which were published between 1870 and 1878. The Catholic Citizen, like the earlier newspapers stressed Irish news, along with the Catholic news of the area of Wisconsin, Illinois, Michigan, Iowa, Minnesota, Kansas, and the Dakota Territory. It was a strong advocate of the Temperance movement in this area.
