Abstract

The chronically ill child may encounter alterations in daily living due to the effects of his disease. The eight to ten year old child who has kidney disease may experience a heightened concern with body structure, function and maintenance of body intactness. The purpose of this essay is to develop an instructional media program which will provide the child with information about the function of his body, explain the effects of kidney disease, and present cognitive strategies that would enable the child to deal with his concern about body integrity. The methodology for the development of the program will include a review of the literature, definition of the objectives, selection of the media format, writing of the script, production of the program, and evaluation of the quality of the instructional media program.
