Abstract
In writing this thesis I had the intention to show briefly and graphically the growth of outdoor relief in Milwaukee County as compared with economic indices. To a certain extent the existing relationship of these is one. I have used the figures compiled by Malcolm Morrow of the Milwaukee County Department of Outdoor Relief to whom I am deeply: grateful both for the figures and additional help he gave me. My personal thanks are due too to Miss Susan M. Drew, the librarian of the Milwaukee County Courthouse, whose compilation of historical facts I used; to Mrs. Margaret Wilson, Director of Family Visitor's Unit of the Milwaukee County Department of Outdoor Relief; Othmar Weber of the Wisconsin Bankshares Corporation, Joseph Gallagher of the Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company; and Frank Greenya, Assistant Superintendent of the Milwaukee County Department of Outdoor Relief.
