Abstract

As little is written concerning the negro in Milwaukee, and statistics are few and widely scattered, the writer felt there was a need of compiling the important available data at the present time. With this in mind the writer searched many public records and sources of information, but due to a lack of classification not nearly as much could be found as was expected.

The negro population is becoming a more and more important part of the population of Milwaukee. For this reason the writer hopes that soon a better system of record will be adopted by the various city offices, so that it will be easier to gather more data about the negro in our city.

In order to better understand the relation of the negroes of Milwaukee to the negroes of the United States as a whole, the paper begins with an introductory chapter presenting a brief portrayal of some of the significant facts about the negro population in the United States as a whole.
