Abstract
Anthers of Lilium formosum were collected ranging from the very young to the mature. Anthers used for the writing of this paper were gathered around Easter time or early April. The anthers were removed from the bud and the ends were cut off. Each anther was cut into three or four parts at right angles to their respective lengths. After the washing, infiltration, and imbedding was completed, sections were cut from eight to ten micra in thickness. Before staining the sections were placed in a solution of hydrogen peroxide to bleach for three hours. Flemming 's triple stain, a combination of Safranin, Gentian Violet, and Orange G. was used. All figures were drawn with the aid of a Bausch and Lomb microscope with a Spencer Camera Lucida attachment. For detailed nuclear work an oil immersion microscope was used.
