Abstract

This thesis seeks to accomplish three main purposes: First, to show the need of America for new markets; second, to encourage American trade in the Orient; and, third, to submit a plan whereby the United States could acquire French Indo-China and establish an entrepot in the Far East for American foreign trade. The plan proposed is a complete and unconditional transfer of French Indo-China to the United States as payment for the French war debt and accrued interest. In the analysis of the financial situation of France, much stress has been laid on the reference: "The French Debt Problem"-by H. G. Moulton, because of its recent publication (1925) and also the impartial attitude taken to reveal the true financial situation of France. A chapter is also devoted to the resources, industry and commerce, and possibilities of French Indo-China.
