Abstract
There was a man whose name was Luke. He was not a clergyman, he was a physician. He felt, however, that he had something to say about the Master which none of those other men had said. So he wrote the gospel of Luke, which many people regard as the best book in the Bible. "Many have undertaken to set forth in order the facts about Jesus Christ and it seemed good to me also to write", he said. There was another physician and "it seemed good to him also to write". This physician was Silas Weir Mitchell. He rose to the front rank in the medical profession in this country and was greatly honored in Europe. He published more than a hundred medical books and pamphlets, greatly enriching the literature of that profession. He also wrote history, poetry, and stories, some in the most interesting and charming style.
