Abstract

This thesis sets out to show that due to certain circumstances, certain turns of events affecting the nation politically and economically and through the manner of handling foreign news by American editors, there has grown up in the United States during the last quarter of a century a distinct demand for foreign news; that this demand was created by events which were in their nature sufficient to cause world-wide interest, that the demand was made continuous and larger by the methods of American editors. Its main theme is to be found in the increased amount of foreign news printed in the columns of American newspapers between 1910 and 1929. It will tend to show that through the activities of editors and by reason of their policy in regard to foreign news, and because of economic conditions, a definite world-consciousness has been instilled in the people of the nation.
