Abstract
Many years ago when the western portion of the United States was still undeveloped and the land was only open to the braver hearts, there arose a group of men who had suffered from the aftermath of the Civil War. After that war, like after so many others, there were reactions that, if uncontrolled, would rend asunder the whole structure of American civilization. The conditions that gave birth to these third party movements were the condition of agriculture and the desire for silver. The men of the west had fought in the Civil War and had returned home to find themselves the remnants of what had been a prosperous country.
