Abstract
"Phonics is a term usually applied to the study of sounds as they are related to reading." Its aim is to give the child power in the independent recognition of words, therefore, a knowledge of the use of phonics has always been considered a necessary part of the primary teacher's equipment, and probably no question has been more widely asked in the field of primary reading, than, "How and when shall phonics be taught?"
