Abstract

The purpose of this Thesis ·is to show how the official interpretation of the Monroe Doctrine has changed since the last days of the Wilson Administration; and how this change of interpretation on the part of the United States has changed the Latin American official and partisan outlook. And to show how various administrations backed up their interpretations with actions that worked either with or contrary to their original plans in respect to Central and South American relations. But before we consider all this we must see in a general survey just what things brought about the necessity of a change in the United States interpretation and what caused the South American animosity.
