A unique and imperishable record of St. Augustine's lite and thought is found in his "Confessions", the date of which ls placed approximately in the year 400 A. D. At this time he was bishop of Hippo and some thirteen years of study and Christian experience had been added to his life since his conversion. Concerning this work of his st. Augustine himself says, "The books of my Confession, both in my evil and in my good things praise God, ever just and ever good and raise up towards Him the understand1ng and affection of man. At least to myself, they had this effect on me when they were written, and have still when they are read."
