Abstract
It is the purpose of the author to discuss the subject of imperialism during the administration of Theodore Roosevelt. The period from 1898 to 1908 was one of the most perilous in American diplomacy. As a result of the Spanish-American War in 1898, the United States emerged as a World Power and was called upon to aid in the settlement of questions of world interest. The United States, moreover, had acquired possessions in the Caribbean and assumed the duties of a protector and administrator over the affairs of certain islands in the Caribbean and of certain Republics bordering on that sea, by virtue of the application and extension of the principles of the Monroe Doctrine
