Abstract
The study of electrochemistry is not only fascinating and worthwhile, but essential to the student of chemistry in the understanding of many theories and chemical phenomena. Though electrochemistry is still in its infancy, numerous substances are prepared electrolytically in industry. It is reported that about 15% of all the chemical goods manufactured are prepared by electrochemical industries. Of the various types of studies, in electrochemistry, the one which appears to be most appealing is the analysis of chemical reaction sin which electrochemical methods are used. The determination of decomposition potentials is one of these methods. A knowledge of decomposition values and decomposition potential curves enables one to control and forecast certain electrochemical reactions; it forms a basis for the separation and refining of metals; it gives a better insight to the understanding of oxidation-reduction reactions.
