Abstract

Any endeavor to trace the influence of the teachings of a man or woman upon the work of later writers is naturally beset with difficulty. It is not easy to say to just what extent individuals are swayed by the philosophy of another, whether that philosophy was contemporary with their own time or of an earlier period; the factors of heredity, environment and association also enter into the question and the influences of these factors may be coincided with that of the first.
