Abstract
Man's earliest communication followed: water routes. Our prehistoric ancestors, evidence shows, fashioned boats and rafts which enabled them to travel along the rivers, and later to sail the seas. Following history through the years we will find man always developing theater routes for transportation before other methods. The early colonies in our America were along the coastal rivers; the Ohio and Mississippi river valleys were first settled in the interior.
