Abstract

Throughout his life Vergil’s one great ambition was to write a poem for the glorification of the Roman nation; a poem that would narrate Rome’s glory and grandeur, her power and majesty, the virtues of her leaders and citizens. Vergil, during the last eleven years of his life, fulfilled his ambition and contributed to the literature of the world the Roman epic, the Aeneid.
