Abstract
The Frog in past years and in most recent years, has been used to a great extent in the experimental sciences. In the field of physiology, the Frog becomes a great factor for experimental purpose. In addition, the science of pharmacology also makes use of the Frog in determining the actions of many drugs. But, this thesis will endeavor to take up the histology of an organ of Rana pipens, thus limiting the subject matter to this particular phase. It would only be proper at this time, to cite some of the important early workers in Histology. Bichat (1800) laid the foundation for the new science of the anatomy of the tissues. The tissues of various parts of the body were studied by Bichat; although he never employed a microscope nor made sketches of their cellular structure. Schwann (1839) formulated the cell-theory, which was the result of microscopic observations of the tissues of animals. Leydig (1864) applied the histology of that day to the lower animals. Cajal (1906) cleared up the complicated relations of the tissues together with a complete investigation of the nervous system.
