Abstract
This thesis was first concerned with a spectroscope based on an eagle mounting (instrument no. 57034). However, due to apparatus difficulties it was necessary to start again using a spectroscope based on a Paschen Runge Mounting (instrument no. 37102 - 124 Central Scientific Co.).
