Abstract
This is the third in a series of investigations of the comparative histology of the digestive tract of Thamnophis sirtalis, the common green snake. Comparatively little recent work of this nature upon any of the class Reptilia, and especially upon the order Ophidia, seems to have been undertaken. Kendall(1940) makes no mention of Ophidia, but discusses briefly the digestive system of the lizard, limiting his treatment of the esophagus to a few lines. Cole (1941) has an equally short and general discussion of the digestive system of Thamnophis sirtalis, again devoting but a brief space to his discussion of the esophagus.
