Abstract

The mission system of education in South American started about the beginning of the sixteenth century although clergymen are reported to have been seen in the colonies as early as 1493. These pioneer educators traveled the length and breadth of South America seeking to equip the natives with a knowledge of spiritual as well as material phenomena. They were a group of individuals wishing to spread enlightening news among a backward race of people.
