Abstract
Over three centuries ago at Jamestown, Virginia, a group of Englishmen settled and erected a few rude huts on the edge of the primeval forest. Here one must go to find the beginning of English occupancy in America, and since it proved to be a permanent occupancy one must of necessity find the early beginning of literature - American literature.
