Abstract
My purpose in selecting Vergil’s tragedy of Dido as a thesis topic was to present this story from a different point of view than it is usually considered. A great deal of material has been written on various aspects of The Aeneid, but very little work has been done with the Dido episode, at least considering it as an exemplification of the characteristics of Greek tragedy. For this reason the ideas and statements given here are, necessarily, largely original and unqualified. The scarcity of authoritative sources created a difficulty, for there was decidedly little material with which to confirm or justify my own point of view.
