Abstract
Open Air Schools for the treatment of delicate children are a product of the twentieth century. They are an off shoot of the sanitorium method of caring for tuberculosis patients. Thirty years ago fresh air was considered the most important factor in the treatment of tuberculosis and though rest and food were also essential factors in such treatment, there seemed to be some special attraction about fresh air which relegated the matter-of-fact procedures of eating and sleeping to positions of less prominence. Perhaps this was a natural reaction from the treatment in vogue before the days of sanitoria, when closed windows were the rule and it was looked upon as suicidal to take a breath of fresh air.
