Abstract
It is the purpose of this thesis to show the development of the Catholic press in Milwaukee and to attempt to determine to what degree it has fulfilled its obligation to the reader and to the Church.
In order to do this it has been necessary to show the methods and practices employed by the Catholic press in handling editorial problems. This I have done by quoting extensively from each of the English Catholic newspapers.
It has been discovered during the preparation of this thesis that there is no up to date history of the Catholic press. In the volume. History of the Catholic Church In Wisconsin, compiled in 1895, a chapter is devoted to the history of the press. The period from that time to the present is unrecorded.
Therefore, it is my sincere hope that this thesis may prove useful to those who seek to familiarize themselves with the great work of the Catholic press.
