Abstract
A study of Anglo-Saxon poetry is necessarily limited. The centuries which have elapsed since these poems were first set down, the ravages of war, of fire, and especially of ignorant men have served to destroy most of this early English literature. Moreover, much of that which has come down to us is fragmentary and incomplete.
