Abstract
The purpose of this thesis is to test the historical and present day methods to determine the place of medical treatment in the field of speech correction. First, we can view the field of history to determine what conditions of mind and body were considered as defects of speech; and secondly, what treatment was offered as a method of cure. We pan again consider the organs of speech and notice the diseases involving such organs. We then can look to the methods in the field and determine if medical treatment is or is not a required procedure.
