Abstract
Ever since the principle of probation was enacted into statutory law and probation officers were appointed to supervise delinquents, various claims have been made as to the reformative or curative value of the system. These claims have been based largely on the official reports of persons discharged from supervision at the expiration of their probationary terms. Only occasionally have there been any attempts made to investigate and study the effects of probation treatment on the after lives of probationers. In these instances the number surveyed was small and the investigations were not sufficiently intensive to merit great consideration.
