Abstract
The educational history of the United States during the past quarter of a century has been marked by the sporadic appearance of pedagogic plans, or devices, which have been heralded as panaceas for the cure of the multitudinous ills of large city school systems. Most of these administrative devices have been originated in small towns, as their names testify - Batavia plan, Dalton plan, Gary plan. Under the double title of "work-study-play, or platoon plan," the last named has assumed the proportions of a national movement, on account of the opportunities which its promoters have had to promulgate it through the National Educational Association, the U. S. Bureau of Education, and other national agencies.
