Abstract

We are constantly changing our ideas in education. If we do not change them entirely, we vary them and give them a new name. Before we let the pendulum swing to the new we should examine the new rather closely from many angles. Perhaps the new is only the old in a new dress. It may look alluring but offer no more than we now have. It may not be based on sound psychology or sound pedagogy. The desire at present seems to be for more freedom in our schools and less of the ready-made education—more activity on the part of the pupils and less perhaps on the part of the teacher.
