Abstract
The retarded pupil that will be considered is the normal child whose mental age and achievement score are below the standards accepted for a child of his chronological age. The school must provide for this type of child now, more than formerly, due to the increased period of attendance required, and changed economic conditions. Regarding this matter Ryan and Crecelius’ state the following:
"Until recently secondary education has concerned itself very little with ’the masses’. in this country the original purpose of the secondary school was to provide selected youths with the training prerequisite for theological study."
