Abstract

In the following thesis, I have endeavored to trace the history of the English actor on the American stage up to the year 1825. I have attempted to give something of the life and characteristics of each important British actor who visited our shores and to show that we are greatly indebted to the English actor for the founding and early development of the American Theatre.
