Abstract

The work in plant anatomy up to 1874 was brought together and added to by De Bary (1884) in his memorable work, the Comparative Anatomy of the Vegetative Organs of the Phanerogams and Ferns. Several years later, Van Tieghem (1886) presented the groundwork for the stelar theory to explain the fundamental structure of the stem and root axis of the plant. Since that time the anatomy of the Pteridophytes has been the object of Increased interest and study.
