Abstract
In this thesis, Bossuet will be studied by means of that work of his which is perhaps the best remembered: The Funeral Orations. All other of his writings, as far as is possible, will be excluded from consideration. In these orations his character and philosophy can be seen, as well as his place in this world.
Bossuet's Funeral Orations are well known for their truly Classical style. They are the best examples of French classical oratory. The influence which assisted in forming this well known style will be considered, as well as the influence of Bossuet's oratory in France.
