Abstract
It is the feeling of the writer that the cultivation of healthful play is one of the first social duties. It can be gathered from statistics that juvenile delinquency in our , large cities increases in direct ratio with the distance of the playground and that playgrounds keep children out of juvenile courts. Juvenile delinquency is but an expression of misdirected play and when this is properly directed, prevents delinquency. After a child had fallen into crime, it is play that is most useful in recovering him. The writer has brought together data to support these statements.
It is often in play that these unruly ones gain their first concept of social relation, and it is generally through this that there can be effected with them any social improvement.
