Abstract
In the estimation of many, the classics are all a waste of precious time and a needless expenditure of energy. If one should suggest to those same people that Horace could visit the twentieth century and not be a curiosity in regard to his philosophy of life, they would probably look at you askance and murmur things about absurdities. It is not strange, however, that we should find Horace and his philosophy of life interesting when we peruse the pages of history only to realize that human nature has remained the same throughout the ages despite the succession of wonders and changes that have occurred. Horace was keenly interested in human nature and it is through his experience and the experience of the past that he built up his philosophy of life.
