Abstract

That chromium could be electrodeposited from chromic acid baths, has been an accomplished fact for over 70 years. However, only in the past few years, has the mechanism of the process been sufficiently understood to permit chromium plating on a commercial basis. Because of the properties and advantages of this particular deposit, tremendous interest and activity has developed in this practically new field. Numerous patents have been granted, but relatively little specific scientific information has been published. Much work can yet be done towards the development of this field. It is the problem of this thesis to study the effect of current ·density on the efficiency of a brass cathode.

The following questions immediately present themselves from the problem: What is the range of brightness? Does the size of the anode affect the cathode efficiency, or the range of brightness? Finally, does the concentration of the bath affect the cathode efficiency, and again, the range of brightness?

To answer the problem and the questions arising is the purpose of this thesis.
